Summary
Crystara set out to create the first NFTs that are fair beyond a shadow of a doubt. Founder Hong Yong was a solo founder with a great idea who went on to create Supra’s most popular NFT marketplace.
The Inspiration Behind Crystara
Before crypto, Yong was coding in Unity and running Minecraft servers. With his interest in gaming, he started to see that NFTs were becoming increasingly popular, but he noticed that issues like rarity and trait generation weren’t nearly as transparent as they could be.
In addition to concerns about fairness, Yong thought that regular NFTs were getting boring, and creating an interactive experience inspired by video game loot boxes could make NFTs far more exciting.
As an ambitious university student, he had extensive experience in Web2 development but no experience with Web3. Excited to jump in, Yong taught himself Move from scratch to build Crystara.
Finding A Platform That Does It All
As a beginner to Web3, Yong didn’t want to waste time learning multiple programming languages, paying for expensive services, and hooking up third-party APIs.
“In crypto, a lot of things are fragmented, and that’s why I chose to build on Supra. As a full-stack Layer-1, all the tools on Supra are affordable and are built for high performance.”
Supra’s suite of integrated services was so compelling that when Yong decided to build something, he didn’t even look elsewhere. Supra was his first and only choice.
Discovering Supra And The Super dApp Showdown
Yong first learned about Supra when he invested in the project in 2023. When Supra launched its hackathon in early 2025, Yong, who had wanted to get into Web3 for a while, decided to join, despite his limited Web3 knowledge.
One of the key tools he used was Supra dVRF, which enables verifiable randomness, letting Crystara users mint provably fair NFTs. With hard work and dedication, Yong became the first runner-up.
“I had never coded in Web3 before, but Move was easier to learn than Solidity or Rust. And Supra dVRF, which is key to Crystara, took less than a day to implement.”
After building an MVP at the hackathon, Yong was invited to participate in the Super dApp Showdown, which helps promising devs secure funding, mentorship, and exposure to successfully launch a dApp on Supra.
Yong started the Showdown with a basic, but functional MVP. During the program, Yong worked directly with Supra engineers and product mentors who helped him launch a month-long incentivized testnet in March 2025, with testnet blindboxes for upcoming projects. The testnet campaign resulted in 400k testnet transactions, including thousands of dVRF calls, and helped Crystara build its user base ahead of its eventual mainnet launch on April 14th, 2025.
Building A Truly Innovative NFT Marketplace

Yong built Crystara to address a few of the most significant technical roadblocks for NFT founders— things like layers, rarities, metadata, and whitelists. Integrating these elements often forces creators to spend money they don’t have on development costs. Crystara removes that barrier with no-code tooling built directly into the dashboard.
Here’s what creators get:
- Blind box deployment: Upload images, set rarities, and launch without touching code.
- Trait & layer generator: Crystara automatically combines and balances traits — no messy scripts or weeks of back-and-forth with devs.
- Whitelist & launch controls: Manage pricing, launch schedules, and rarity weighting in-app.
- Analytics & airdrops: See who holds your NFTs, how long they’ve held, and send targeted rewards instantly.
“Supra supported us all the way through to help us build our audience from zero to more than 8,000 users. There’s always multiple Supra team members waiting to take a ticket from me for any issue that I face.”
Real-World Results
Since launching, Crystara has had over 100 million $SUPRA in transaction volume, 200,000+ blind box mints, and 30,000+ secondary trades. In addition, the marketplace has 8,200+ active users and a growing NFT collector base.

Yong says he doesn’t think that any other chains can provide the type of dev support, direct access to core team members, and design and marketing assistance he got from Supra.
“If you think you have a good product-market fit, definitely give Supra a try. It’s easy to build on, the dev rel team is amazing, and, most importantly, it’s a one-stop shop for all your needs.”
Defying The Odds to Build on Supra
Today, Crystara’s popularity continues to grow, and Yong is busy using Supra AutoFi to develop new features. In the future, he hopes to release tools such as on-chain order books to automate NFT sales and purchases, and automated mint triggers to help maximize user attention during high-stakes launches.
Yong’s journey building Crystara shows how even the most unlikely of founders, in this case, a one-man team with zero Web3 experience, can create a powerful dApp with almost 10,000 users. With a clear plan, hard work, and the proper support, Yong was able to leverage the Supra dApp Showdown’s guaranteed mentorship, tech support, and marketing assistance to build a thriving NFT ecosystem.
